As an expert in the field of golf cart rentals, I'm often asked if kids can ride in golf carts at Put-in-Bay. The answer is yes, but with some restrictions. We have a limited number of seats for children who weigh less than 40 pounds, but we do not offer baby seats. All golf carts have seatbelts, so please make sure to fasten them.
If you're traveling with kids, there are plenty of things to do with them in Put-in-Bay. Kids will love exploring the caves, climbing a rock wall, kayaking, and swimming on the beach in the state park. Nature trails offer families the opportunity to interact with nature and take a peaceful stroll through the forest. Put-in-Bay also has plenty of places to enjoy a picnic or just relax on a warm summer day.
Golf carts are available in two main types and four seating configurations. They can be powered by electricity or gas. Gasoline-powered golf carts are preferred since they run at the same speed all day and don't slow down like electric cars do. Put-in-Bay Golf Carts offers 2-4-6 & 8-passenger golf carts from Ez-Go & Club Car brands.
All golf carts have headlights, taillights, turn signals, and rearview mirrors. Put-in-Bay Golf Carts offers the best rental prices on the island (with reservations) and the largest fleet of latest-model rentals. To avoid higher prices during peak periods, it's best to book in advance of your arrival. Prices can be found on our website and advance reservations can be made online.
All of our hotels, house rentals, and condo rentals have ample parking for your golf cart. Taking a car to Put-in-Bay is not recommended since parking is scarce and in many places non-existent. Plus, waits to enter or leave the island can last up to three hours each way. Fuel use is not included in the rental rate; the only additional fee you pay is the state-mandated sales tax.
As a general rule, if the road isn't paved, don't drive on it. Many drivers may have signs that say “No use of golf carts” or “Private Ride”; respect these signals and refrain from trading them. You'll enjoy Club Car's new fleet of Yamaha EZ-Go & golf carts, which are available for rent by the hour, by the day or by night. Put-in-Bay is best viewed following the more than 10 miles of paved roads. You can reach the resort's golf cart rental office by a Put-in-Bay taxi from any of the Put-in-Bay ferry stations. Rental agencies fill their fleets of golf carts with gas before and after rental.
Unfortunately, every year, the Put-in-Bay Police Department issues dozens of DUIs to golf cart operators. The Put-in-Bay golf cart depot is located on Catawba Avenue, a short walk from the Jet Express ferry, next to one of Put-in-Bay's best restaurants, The Reel Bar, and just around the corner from Mr. Ed's Bar & Grille and MIST Swim Up Bar. Driving a golf cart in Put-in-Bay is governed by the same rules and regulations as a car; each golf cart is fully licensed and has license plates. A four person golf cart has two seats facing forward and two facing backward. If your license indicates that an adult must be with you (learner's permit), it will also apply to your golf cart rental operation. If you can't book hotels in the center (the preferred location), your best bet is to rent a golf cart from Delaware Cart Rentals which has different sizes available for rent.
Put-in Bay golf carts are the most popular and preferred method of traveling around South Bass Island on Lake Erie.
